Ninja Blade Demo Released on Xbox LIVE, Impressions
Earlier this week a Ninja Blade demo was released on Xbox LIVE. From Software’s latest offering attempts to take on the Ninja Gaiden franchise. Judging by the demo Ninja Blade is far away from being able to claim Ninja Gaiden’s throne.
You will first notice the excessive amount of QTEs (quick time events) in Ninja Blade. Personally, I’m not a big fan of QTEs especially when there are a lot of them. That being said, From Software did some good things with the QTEs. They give you visual cues before the QTE happens and if you miss the QTE the game rewinds to right before it occurs and you get to redo it.
The actual game-play is similar to Ninja Gaiden, but not as polished. There are two different attacks and you can string them together for combos. You will have three different weapons, your main sword with medium speed and power, two smaller swords with fast speed and light power, and a heavy sword with slow speed and heavy power. Certain enemies will require certain weapons to defeat them. You also have a ranged attack and ninja vision. Ninja visions allows you to see weak points on bosses and displays a health meter on enemies.
Ninja Blade is an average game. If you are a diehard fan of ninja games you will probably enjoy this game. For everyone else it’s a good rental or bargain bin purchase.
