F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, Demo Impressions
As the usual scarce period of each gaming year comes along, this year is proving to be different. While it doesn’t have all the hype surrounding it like Killzone 2 or Halo Wars, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is still looking to make its mark when it releases on Feb. 10. Luckily gamers won’t have to wait that long to get their hands on it, as a demo has been released on Xbox LIVE, PC, and PSN.
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is being developed by Monolith Productions; Monolith was behind the critically-acclaimed Condemned series. Monolith did a great job creating a tense atmosphere with the Condemned series, and they continue that trend with F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. After a brief cut scene explaining that Alma is once again behind all of the bad things that are happening you begin playing. The first cut scene shows a major explosion ripping through the city and you are trying to figure out what is going on.
As the demo begins you are walking through what is left of a neighborhood. You see Alma in a couple of flashes and then wake-up. Once you find a gun and kill the first enemy, you will be introduced to slow-mo. Slow-mo allows you to slow time down to take out enemies with your guns or cook a grenade and watch it explode right at their feet. From here you will be led down hallways into other rooms where you will continue to see flashes of Alma and other apparitions. As you make your way into the streets, you will get your hands on a sniper rifle. A few headshots later you will get to operate the power suit. The power suit comes equipped with two machine guns and four shoulder mounted rockets offering you plenty of firepower to take out the enemy. Monolith knows how to leave you wanting more as the demo ends as the power suit battle starts heating up.

Slow-mo will be used a lot as the A.I. in F.E.A.R. 2 is some of the best you will see. The enemy soldiers will fight with a variety of tactics. Some will create cover while waiting for you to advance on them, while the heavily armored ones will rush you with shotguns and assault rifles. The controls are similar to most shooters out on the market. There is an interesting melee mechanic not seen in most shooters. Tapping B will do a regular melee, but jumping and meleeing at the same time will do a jump kick. The graphics in F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin are good, Monolith incorporates a grain filter much like the one used in Mass Effect. The particle effects when slow-mo is activated are impressive. Sparks will fly off the enemies’ armor as bullets hit and blast waves will tear rooms apart as grenades explode.
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is looking like it will turn out to be a good game. While it may get overshadowed by some of the other bigger releases, gamers should still keep their eye on F.E.A.R. 2 as it we get closer to its Feb. 10 release.

All I can say about this beside 1st post is I wasn’t expecting much. Being I have played the 1st game, I really didn’t know where they could go with this. Lets just say I downloaded this demo through Steam, cranked the settings to max & jumped into the world of Fear. On the keyboard the control sceme can be changed but for the default settings it was tight & felt just right. The graphics are A+ & the fun that insuses fallows along with awesome visuals & fights leading to a head to head battle that makes you crave for more. I see alot of promise with this game. I can’t wait to get my hands on the final version. Lets just keep our fingers crossed hoping that what hooked me to the demo keeps me coming back for more in the full game. Zombie Out
